What Affects Cabinet Painting Cost in Maine?
MR

A useful cabinet painting estimate starts with the cabinetry you have and the result you want. Door count matters, but it is only one part of the scope. For a kitchen, vanity, or built-in in Southern Maine, use these questions to understand what the proposal includes.
Count the surfaces, not just the doors
Share the approximate number of doors and drawer fronts, then identify the cabinet frames, exposed end panels, island, molding, and other surfaces you want refinished. Confirm whether cabinet interiors, shelves, and the backs of doors are included. Two kitchens with the same door count can have different amounts of finishing work.
Understand the existing material and finish
Describe the cabinet material if you know it and send both whole-room photos and close-ups. Note grease buildup, peeling, damage, or previous repainting. The condition of the existing finish helps determine the cleaning, surface preparation, repairs, primer, and coating plan.
Ask how visible wood grain and existing surface details will be treated. A painted finish and a heavily filled, smoother appearance can involve different preparation. Make the intended result part of the written scope.
Decide on hardware and repairs early
If you want new handles, choose them before finishing is planned. Tell your painter whether the new hardware uses the same mounting holes. Filling old holes, relocating handles, replacing components, and repairing damaged edges should be discussed separately.
Painting refreshes the appearance of cabinetry. If you need a different layout or have substantial structural damage, discuss whether repair or replacement work is needed before refinishing.
Include access, protection, and reassembly
Ask where doors and drawer fronts will be finished and how the fixed cabinetry will be handled inside the home. The proposal should explain protection of adjacent surfaces, the components being removed and reinstalled, and any work that remains your responsibility.
For a seasonal property, share access arrangements and the dates you expect to use the kitchen. Read our kitchen access guide before setting a household or rental schedule.
Compare estimates using one checklist
Before comparing totals, line up these details: included surfaces; preparation and repairs; the proposed primer and cabinet coating; application method; hardware work; protection and cleanup; reassembly; and written care guidance. Ask how changes to the scope will be priced and approved.
An online price cannot account for every cabinet condition. Douglass Painting develops an estimate around the proposed work so you can review what is included before deciding. Our painting estimate checklist gives you a broader framework for comparing proposals.
Request a cabinet painting estimate
Send your town, photos, approximate door and drawer counts, desired color or finish, and any planned hardware changes. Mention whether walls, ceilings, or trim are also part of the project.
